Bamboo items get popular in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI: One of the essential bamboo items is being used at every family in the northern region including Nilphamari district. The demand of bamboo items are increasing gradually.

On the other hand, artisans of bamboo items are changed their life by making different kinds of bamboo goods and retail at the market. The wholesalers are collecting the bamboo items from different market in the district for supplying to other districts. While contacted an artisan of bamboo items Malek Uddin, 42, son of late Jasho Mamud of Nawtara village under Dimla Upazila of the district said, “I carrying this profession from last 20 years due to it’s a profitable business and it is also our family tradition. Almost thousands are self-reliant in the area by making bamboo items”. Ajgar Ali, 48, son of late Md Matin Miah of Purbo Chatnai village under Dimla upazila of the district said, “I maintaining my family by the profession. I earn minimum Tk 15-20 thousand every month from the profession.

A wide range of variety of bamboo items like baskets, table, sofa, bench, shelves, dining table, TV rack, garden accessories and decor, indoor and outdoor items is now being sold at the Bashundhara Shopping Mall in Dhaka. The highest range in price of high-end item is Tk 25,000.

Once bamboo items has used by the rural folks and less wealthy segment of the society. Now rich people are increasingly using it because of its unique beauty and durability, said Ajgar Ali.
