Water-logging on Rokeya Sarani

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) and Metro Rail Project authorities on Monday formed a committee to find a solution to the water-logging problem at Rokeya Sarani in the capital.

The committee comprises officials from the three authorities in a meeting at Bangladesh Club of the capital’s Uttara. DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam presided over the meeting.   Speaking at the meeting, mayor Atiqul said when it rains, people have to suffer immensely due to water-logging at Rokeya Sarani.

“We have to rid people of the suffering. As we are public representatives we cannot sit idle,” he said.

Metro Rail Project authorities will have to take steps to redress the situation and the city corporation is always ready to help them, the mayor said.

He also instructed the committee to take necessary steps by May to ease the public sufferings during the upcoming rainy season.

Committee members from the DNCC are superintending engineer (civil circle) Md Sharif Uddin, superintending engineer (waste management) Khondoker Mahbub Alam, executive engineer of zone-2 Md Enamul Kabir and executive engineer of zone-4 Mollah Mohammad Nuruzzaman.

On the other hand, members from WASA are executive engineer (drainage) Mizanur Rahman, executive engineer Atiqur Rahman and assistant engineer (drainage) Zakir Hosain while members from Metro Rail Project are project manager Sarwar Uddin Khan and sub divisional engineer Mahfuzur Rahman. 

Among others, DNCC chief executive officer Abdul Hai, secretary Rabindra Sri Barua, chief engineer Brig Gen Md. Jubayer Salehin, director (technical) of WASA A. K. M. Shahid Uddin and additional director of Metro Rail Project Abdul Baki Mia attended the meeting.
