‘Criticism regarding standard of education is not true’

CHATTOGRAM: Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury Nowfel said the criticism regarding the standard of education in the country is not true.

“The expectation of people may be higher compared to the existing standard. But, if the standard were not good human resources would not be increased,” observed the minister.

He said these while addressing as the chief guest at a roundtable on ‘Education in Chattogram: A Cluster of Proposals’ organised by the vernacular local daily ‘Azadi’ at its conference room on Saturday.

Nowfel, a lawmaker for Chattogram-9 (Kotwali) constituency, said that the quality of education mostly depends on teachers and school management committees.

Terming the standard of education as software, the deputy minister said educational infrastructure sector of the country witnessed massive developments.

The Prime Minister has given huge allocation in the education sector while importance has been attached on the vocational education, said Nawfel.

The premier also given instruction for establishing a technical school in every upazila, he said.

“The efficiency of the government has been increased remarkably. We want to increase skills in the education sector for making it sustainable and optimum utilisation of the infrastructures,” the deputy minister added. 

The issues including lack of sufficient government schools, land crisis for new schools, infrastructural crisis, shortage of teachers in schools and colleges and manpower crisis at the education board were discussed at the roundtable.

Azadi Editor MA Malek presided over the roundtable while Managing Editor Wahed Malek, Chattogram Education Board Chairman Professor Shaheda Islam, Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), Chattogram Region Director Professor Pradip Chakrabartya, Chattogram City Corporation Chief Education Officer Suman Barua, DSHE Deputy Director Md Aziz Uddin, Bangladesh College University Teachers Association, Chattogram General Secretary  Mohammad Jahangir and Bangladesh Teachers Association Chattogram General Secretary Anchal Chowdhury discussed among others.
