University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan on Wednesday urged the university teachers to improve their skills and expertise.
“The best student of a class may not be a good teacher. A good teacher should achieve skills and be a good trainer and researcher,” he said.The UGC chief came up with the remarks while addressing a certificate distribution ceremony held at Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) in the capital.
Prof Mannan handed over certificates among 28 GUB teachers who participated at a course titled ‘Certificate Course on Teaching and Learning’.
Prof Mannan said teachers will not only teach students from textbooks; they should make students aware of everything.
“Teachers will teach students how to think and how to learn,” UGC chairman said, urging the teachers to motivate students to love the country.
Speaking on the occasion, GUB Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Golam Samdani Fakir said, “Both students and teachers need to improve their skills for the development of quality education.”
GUB Pro-VC Prof Dr Muhammad Fayyaz Khan, Treasurer Md Shahid Ullah, deans — Prof Golam Ahmed Faruki and Prof Abdur Razzak, and heads of the different departments of the university were also present at the event.
