The Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association (FBUTA) has sought the cancellation of the government notification that said all employees joining autonomous, self-regulated, state-run, statutory organisations or their affiliates from 1 July will be included in the Universal Pension Scheme.

The FBUTA in a media statement issued on Saturday said the university teachers are being pushed to the path of demonstration by issuing this notification.

The Finance Division issued the notification on Wednesday.

The FBUTA in its statement said the sudden issuance of such a notice has created extreme frustration and discontent among the teachers of the country’s public universities.

FBUTA feels that if this decision is implemented, the public university teachers will be subjected to extreme discrimination, the statement read.

The statement further said as a result of this discriminatory action against teachers, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s dream of building a developed Bangladesh will be obstructed because the talented graduates would lose interest in the teaching profession.

It is also necessary to unearth whether this move is taken to raise a confrontation between the university teachers and the government, the FBUTA statement said.

The Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Associations urged the government to immediately withdraw this notification and remove the frustration and dissatisfaction that erupted among the university teachers for this new decision.

It this here mentionable that the government inaugurated the Universal Pension Scheme with four products—Pragati, Surokkha, Samata, and Probash— in August last year.
