Awami League (AL) joint general secretary Mahabub-ul-Alam Hanif said that his party will take action against the ministers and the lawmakers who are working against party-nominated candidates in upazila elections.

Organising secretaries have been asked to prepare a list of ministers, lawmakers and leaders who has taken stance against the party decision, he said.

Hanif came up with the statements at a press conference at Awami League president Sheikh Hasina’s political office in Dhanmondi in the capital on Sunday.

Talking about the devastating fire incidents, Hanif said stern action would be taken if any failure or involvement of anyone is found in capital’s fire incidents.

“People are confused whether the two fire incidents in Banani and Gulshan are acts of sabotage. Investigation into these incidents is underway,” he said.

Referring to the tremendous development of the fire service and civil defence, he said what the present government has done over the last 10 years was not done even in the last 40 years.

“Besides, a free national emergency helpline 999 has been launched in case of any accidents,” he added.

Replying to a query about the upcoming council of the ruling AL, Hanif said a decision has already been taken to hold the party’s national council within the stipulated time.

Talking about the demand for reelection from Gono Forum leader Dr Kamal Hossain, Hanif said they will have to wait for the next five years and the Election Commission (EC) will take decision in this connection.
