BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday alleged that the government is trying to ‘eliminate’ his party through applying different tactics.

“The current regime has become more desperate to eliminate Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) through applying different tactics,” he said in a written statement.

Mirza Fakhrul also expressed anger over the incident of sending the party leaders Asaduzzaman Ripon and GK Gous to jail after appearing before a court.

“Awami League government is implementing plan to keep leaders and activists in jail through filing fabricated, baseless cases in a bid to prolong one-party ruling by eliminating oppositions including BNP,” he added.

The BNP secretary general alleged that Asaduzzaman Ripon and GK Gous were sent to jail after cancelling their bails as they are victims to ‘political vengeance’.

He demanded immediate unconditional release of the party leaders and withdrawal of cases filed against them.
