A Dhaka court on Monday granted bail to suspended acting principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College Naznin Ferdous and another teacher in a case filed over “provoking the suicide” of ninth-grader Aritree Adhikary.

Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury passed the order after Naznin Ferdous and suspended morning shift-in-charge Jeenat Ara surrendered before the court and sought bail in the case.

The two teachers remained absconding since filling of the case against them with Paltan police station in the city over “provoking the suicide” of ninth-grader Aritree Adhikary.

Earlier in December, the court granted bail to Hasna Hena, another accused teacher of the school in the case.

Aritree Adhikari, a class-IX student of the school, committed suicide at their Shantinagar residence in the capital on December 3 after allegedly being rebuked by teachers for using mobile phone during examination.

Later, the victim’s father Dilip Adhikari filed a case with Paltan police station accusing three teachers of the school.

The suicide incident sparked a wave of outrage inside and outside the school and students demonstrated at the campus for three days demanding justice over the incident.

Later, the governing body of the school suspended its three teachers—-acting Principal Nazneen Ferdous, morning shift in-charge of Bailey Road branch Jeenat Ara and Aritree’s class teacher Hasna Hena—-over the suicide case.
