The aim of human life is service. We can get happiness, success and self-satisfaction by serving other people. In 1907, Robert Stephenson Smith, Lord Baden Powel of Gilwell, started the scout movement by taking “Service” as the motto. At first, it started with only 21 boys in Brown Sea Island. At present, there are more than 40 million scouts all over the world and its activities run in 169 countries. They (scouts) sacrifice their valuable time for the sake of humanity all over the world. For this reason even after a century of starting, it is growing rapidly. In our country, there are almost 17 lakh scouts. Our Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has defined the target of increasing quality of scouts along with quantity to 21 lakh scouts by 2021. Why the extensive growth? Why youths attraction to it?
Let us know about scout movement.Scouting is an international, educational and non-political movement. By which, teenagers and youth society can become skilled and strengthened physically, mentally, socially, intellectually and spiritually. It is the only organisation in the world where before involving one has to perform vigil. S/he has to forsake all bad habits of the past. He has to abstain from wine, gambling, sex offense, and irreligion. They (scouts) have to spend their life according to scout promise. The scout promise is,
“On my honour I promise that, I will do my best to do my duty to Allah and my country to help other people at all time to obey the scout law”
The scout laws are,
1. A scout’s honour is to be trusted

3. A scout is courteous and obedient4. A scout is kind to animals
5. A scout is cheerful at all times
6. A scout is thrifty
7. A scout is clean in thoughts, words and deeds
Scout movement has three principles. These are,
Duty to God
Duty to self and
Duty to others
By following the promise, laws and principle perfectly a scout perform his/her life and serve the nation. So, it is high time to create scout unit at every schools, colleges and universities and widely involve the students with scouting.
