The High Court issued a rule asking the Chief Election Commissioner and other officials concerned to explain why cancelling registration of Oikyabadha Nagorik Andolon (ONA) shall not be declared illegal.

A division bench comprising Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil passed the order on Tuesday following a writ petition.

President of the party Dr Qazi Faruque Ahmed and general secretary Abdus Samad filed the petition on Sunday challenging cancellation of the registration.

The HC also stayed operation of the cancellation letter issued by the Election Commission on October 4, 2018.
