The governing Awami League has directed leaders and activists of its associate bodies to be geared up for the forthcoming national election.

The party also ordered them to form election-centre based committees and enhance party activities, sources said.

The instructions were given at a joint meeting of AL with its associate bodies at party president Sheikh Hasina’s political office at Dhanmondi in the capital on Wednesday.

The leaders were asked to carry out pre-election campaign in their respective areas, drum up public support and project the development programmes of the government that have been completed and are going to be completed.

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hold discussion with leaders of the associate bodies this month, sources said.

Leaders of Juba League, Swechchhasebak League, Krishak League, Juba Mohila League and other like-minded bodies were present at the meeting with AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader in the chair.

“All has to go to common people if we want to win the next polls. We have to convey the message of development work the Awami League government has carried out,” source quoted Quader as saying.
