RANGPUR: Language movement fighter and freedom fighter Shah Md Abdur Razzaque (90) died at his residence at Mahiganj in Rangpur on Sunday night.
He left behind three sons, one daughter, a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.Razzaque was former president of Rangpur district unit of Awami League. He was also a headmaster of Afanullah High School in Mahiganj. He also a former lawmaker of Awami League (AL), was language movement activist and took part in the War of Liberation in 1971. He was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly in 1970 and member of the parliament from Rangpur-4 (Kawnia-Pirgachha) constituency in 1973 and 1986.
The body of Razzaque was brought to Mahiganj Glass Factory ground in the morning where his first namaj-e-janaza was held at 11am. His second namaj-e-janaza was held at Mahiganj Jam-e-Mosque ground here on Monday noon.
Later, his body was taken to the Central Shaheed Minar in Rangpur where his fellow freedom fighters, politicians, educationists, socio-cultural activists, journalists and members of civil society paid their last respect to him.
