A total of 7,917 candidates have passed the Bangladesh Bar Council’s written examination for lawyer enrollment, according to an official notice published on the council’s website.
The notice stated that the written test was held on 28 June, and the successful candidates will now be eligible to sit for the viva voce (oral) examination.
Details regarding the schedule of the oral test will be announced later, the Bar Council said.
The results were published on Saturday and signed by Mohammad Kamal Hossain Shikder, secretary of the Bangladesh Bar Council and district and sessions judge.
To become an enrolled advocate under the Bangladesh Bar Council, candidates must pass a three-step examination process.
After completing a law degree, applicants must first submit intimation papers under the supervision of a senior lawyer who has at least 10 years of professional experience.
After six months of apprenticeship, candidates can sit for the MCQ (preliminary) examination.
Those who pass the MCQ move on to the written examination, and successful candidates from the written stage proceed to the oral test.
Upon passing all three stages, candidates are awarded a certificate of enrollment as advocates and may begin practicing law after joining their respective district bar associations.
The Bangladesh Bar Council, as the regulatory authority for lawyers, oversees this entire process of legal certification and professional enrollment.
