A massive fire broke out at a cloth scrap warehouse and a plastic factory in Chattogram’s Bakolia Access Road area early Saturday, spreading quickly to several nearby houses.

The blaze started around 2:00 am, and nine units from four fire stations brought it under control by 4:45 am, according to Fire Service officials. 

Eyewitnesses and locals said the fire first broke out in a privately owned warehouse storing fabric scraps near Ahad Convention Hall on Access Road, before spreading to an adjacent plastic factory and nearby houses.

Abdul Mannan, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Chattogram, said, “Shortage of water and the presence of highly flammable materials inside the factory made it difficult to bring the blaze under control. However, we managed to contain it around 4:45 am. The extinguishing operation is still going on.”

He added that the cause of the fire and the extent of damage would be determined after an investigation.
