This year, the iconic “Mukherjees’ Puja,” officially known as the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durgotsav, marked its 77th edition.

As in every year, the celebrations at Juhu drew not just the city’s Bengali community but also thousands of visitors from across Mumbai and other parts of India, all eager to witness the cultural and spiritual spectacle.

Over the three festive days of Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami, the puja once again became a star-studded affair.

Rani Mukerji, Kajol and Tanisha Mukerji actively participated — joining in the traditional dhunuchi naach (dance with incense burners) and even serving bhog to devotees. Actor Jackie Shroff was also seen distributing bhog with characteristic warmth.

Jaya Bachchan added a personal touch to the occasion, capturing pictures of the Durga idol and the gathered devotees on her phone, at one point even learning a few photography tips from Rani Mukerji. After a long hiatus, Twinkle Khanna was spotted at the festival, sharing in the festive spirit with Rani and Kajol — turning the puja into a joyous reunion.

The guest list sparkled with familiar faces – Anupam Kher, Priyanka Chopra (who flew in from the US), and actress Mouni Roy, a North Bengal native who has carved her niche in Bollywood.

Ranbir Kapoor, a regular at the Mukherjees’ festivities, was present as well, happily posing for selfies with fans. Veteran actor, director, producer, and self-professed “half-Bengali” Rakesh Roshan also graced the celebrations.

Adding to the warmth of the occasion, Bipasha Basu attended with husband Karan Singh Grover and their daughter, Devi.

A touching moment unfolded when Bipasha touched Rakesh Roshan’s feet in respect, and the veteran responded by affectionately cupping little Devi’s chin and embracing Karan.

The family moment was briefly interrupted when baby Devi, startled by the relentless paparazzi flashes, burst into tears. Bipasha quickly gathered her daughter, soothing her with whispered reassurances — “Don’t be scared, I’m here” — before moving to a quieter spot away from the crowd.

The 2025 festivities of Saptami, Ashtami and Navami proved, yet again, that the Mukherjees’ Durga Puja is as much a cultural homecoming as it is a religious celebration.
