Chairman of ‘Child and Old Age Care’ Milton Samadder used to torture helpless children and elderly people he claimed to help in his so-called care facility under the influence of Yaba, police say.

While briefing reporters at his office in the capital on Monday, Additional Commissioner (Detective Branch) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Harun Or Rashid said the torture Milton inflicted on the ashram inmates was nothing short of inhumane.

Videos of the torture are proliferating on social media, sparking outrage across the country.

Behind the kind and humane facade, he used to line his own pockets cashing in on the children and elderly people, Harun said, adding that he spent little to nothing on the well-being of the inmates.

He also claimed to have gleaned bone-chilling information from the ashram chairman. The DB chief said Milton confessed to faking the signatures of doctors as well as death certificates.

He said the Alhaj Shamsul Hoque Foundation will now take over the care of the ‘Child and Old Age Care’ inmates.

It agreed to take their responsibility following a request made by the DB.

The foundation will bear all the expenses associated with the wellbeing of the people in Milton’s ashram, the DB chief said.

On 1 May, the detectives arrested Milton from the Mirpur area of the city after his misdeeds came to light following media reports.
