Post-election violence has escalated in Narayanganj-1 parliamentary seat, with the houses of an independent candidate's election coordinator and supporters being set on fire.
The residences of the election coordinator and supporters of independent candidate Shahjahaj Bhuiyan were reportedly set on fire in Rupganj area under the constituency around 9 am, reports our local correspondent.
A group led by Rafiqul Islam, former chairman of the local union parishad, along with his followers, initially vandalized the houses and subsequently set them ablaze.
The attackers are identified as supporters of Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, according to many supporters of Shahjahaj Bhuiyan.
Following the incidents of arson and vandalism, they immediately contacted the local police station but received no response.
Dulal Pradhan, who belongs to the Awami League, said that his house was set on fire because he sought votes for the independent candidate Shahjahan Bhuiyan.
