The general students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Thursday declared a 48-hour ultimatum to the university vice-chancellor Aminul Haque Bhuiyan for stepping down.
The announcement of the ultimatum came from a rally staged in front of the vice-chancellor’s office after a procession parading the campus demanding his withdrawal from the university this morning.
According to their ultimatum, student will go through tougher programme to remove the VC if the vice-chancellor did not quit within Saturday.
Meanwhile, the protesting teachers under the banner of Mohan Muktijuddher Chetanay Udbuddha Shikkhak Parishad, a forum of the teachers inspired with the spirit of the national liberation war, held a rally on the campus after observing a four-hour symbolic hunger strike from 9:00am.
The teachers observed the strike as part of their three-day protest programme on the campus following Sunday’s attack on their demonstration by activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League.
On Sunday, 10 teachers were injured as Chhatra League activists attacked a section of pro-Awami League teachers who were staging a sit-in in front of the vice-chancellor’s office demanding his removal.
The teachers have been on movement since April 20 demanding removal of vice-chancellor Aminul Haque Bhuiyan on allegation of corruption, irregularities, nepotism and misbehave with fellows.
