Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury laid emphasis on developing multifaceted skills to keep pace with the fast moving world and secure job in the world market.

He said this while addressing at the 2nd Convocation of BGC Trust University on the university campus under Chandanish upazila in the district on Saturday.

Mohibul in his speech said the country has lakhs of graduates while employment opportunities are limited in both the government and private sectors.

Besides, he stated that in order to survive in the competitive job market, one should prepare himself as a global citizen, which would create scope for securing employment opportunities at different parts of the world.

The deputy minister also observed that the theoretical education system in Bangladesh is not enough to secure a job. The students should develop their computer, communication, analytical and linguistic skills.

“Such skills along with education will pave way for obtaining the global jobs,” he said.

“Aspirants should start working as apprentice or unpaid employee to gain experience,” Mohibul added.

He also suggested for a change in mind-set so that the graduates could adapt to any kind of profession.

Dhaka University Professor Emeritus, former Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) and former Dhaka University VC Professor Dr AK Azad Chowdhury attended the programme as convocation speaker while UGC Member Professor Dr Biswajit Chanda and BGC Trust founder and Trustee Board Chairman Freedom Fighter Engineer Afsar Uddin Ahmed and the University Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr AFM Aowrangazab were present as the special guests.

Mentionable, a total of 4,663 students were awarded with certificates in this convocation.

Of the students, five were awarded Chancellor Gold Medal while four Vice Chancellor Gold Medal and six Chairman Gold Medal.

The university started its regular education programme in 2003 after getting the approval in 2001. At present, there are six departments under three faculties at the university, developed on a 100-acre of land under the Chandanish upazila.
