Speakers at a seminar called upon the government to implement the national volunteers' policy to ensure economic emancipation and building a prosperous and just society.

Representatives from government departments and non-governmental organisations made the call while addressing a seminar on ‘Urban Volunteer Planning’ at CIRDAP auditorium in the city on Monday.

The national volunteers' policy can play a vital role to bring back discipline in voluntary activities. And the roles of volunteers are very important in carrying forward the country that earned its independence through War of Liberation, they observed.

The seminar organised by Good Neighbours- Bangladesh (GNB), a non-government organisation, with its Country Director M Mainuddin Moinul in the chair.

Addressing the programme, Director General of Department of Youth Development Azaharul Islam focused on the government plan to use the youth force of the country.

Terming the youth folk as the main driving force, he said measures have been taken to provide them appropriate training from the Department of Youth Development and facilitate them with loans.

Over 100 youths participated in the seminar.
