The country’s export to neighbouring India through Benapole Land Port has been two times in FY 2021-22, sources said.

To keep the economy running during coronavirus pandemic, huge goods were exported to India in the FY 2021-22.

Bangladeshi goods weighing 4,51,395 metric ton valued Tk 8,475 crore  were exported to India in FY 2020-21.

The previous FY (2020-21),  the export volume was  2,97,049 metric ton.

Export in FY 2021-22 increased by Tk 1,54,344 metric ton compared to bygone year.

According to businessmen, trading will increase from next year due to the Padma Bridge. Traders have also demanded to solve obstacles to start trading via rail.

Due to improved quality of Bangladeshi products, demand has increased in Indian market. Last year, the highest  volume of Bangladeshi products were sold in the Indian market.

The export has seen positive impact on employment sector.

Mamun Kabir Tarafder, deputy director of Benapole Land Port, said “The government has directed opening port to run country’s economy. As per the requirement, the government officials are working also on holidays’.”
