Flood damages 4,125 primary schools

As many as 4,125 primary schools were damaged due to flood at 83 upazilas of  17 districts in northeastern and northern regions, according to Department of Primary Education (DPE).

It may be needed Tk 100 crore to repair the schools affected by the flood.

Authorities said some schools were damaged fully and some partly while some went under river water. Moreover, some educational institutes are being used as shelters.

Furnitures, books and necessary documents of the educational institutions were damaged due to waterlogging. In addition, roads, playground  and adjacent places were damaged due to flood.

Department of Primary Education (DPE) has formed a cell to repair the institutions damaged by flood.

Of the institutions, 1,475 schools were damaged in Sunamgnaj, 124 in Moulvibazar, 370 in Habiganj and 886 in Sylhet. Moreover, 1,798 schools are being used as shelters.

Apart from this, 27 schools in Jamalpur, 578 in Netrokona, 18 in Sherpur, 57 in Mymensingh, 14 in Lamonirhat, 294 in Kurigram, 111 in Gaibandha, 11 in Nilphamari and one in Rangpur are inundated.

A total of 172 schools in Kishoreganj, 172 in Manikganj, seven schools in Feni and Khagrachhari were submerged.
