One arrested with 2kg 545gm smuggled gold at Dhaka airport

Customs Intelligence arrested a passenger with 2 kilograms and 545grams of gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka Monday night.

The arrestee has been identified as Mohammad Manik Mia who arrived in Dhaka airport by an Air Arabia flight numbered G9 510.

Tipped off, officials of Customs Intelligence & Investigation Directorate were waiting for the passenger carrying smuggled gold.

A team led by Ahmedur Reza Chowdhury, Deputy Director, Customs Detective and Investigation Circle, HSIA, took strategic position in front of the 6th boarding bridge of the airport. The suspect came to the notice of the intelligence team while crossing the bridge area.

Manik Mia was brought to the green channel and searched and found to be possessing 21 gold bars and 98 grams of ornaments worth Tk 1crore 80 lakh. 

A case was filed against passenger Manik Miah under the provisions of Special Powers Act 1974 and The Customs Act 1969.

He was later handed over to Airport Police Station.
