Defending champions Bashundhara Kings crushed Uttar Baridhara Club by 6-0 goals in their 13th round match of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League football at their home venue Bashundhara Kings Arena on Friday.

The Kings’ Brazilian midfielder Miguel Figueira Damasceno, local midfielder Sohel Rana, Gambian forward Nuha Marong and local forwards Tawhidul Alam Sabuz and Sumon Reza scored one goal each in the 26th, 30th, 38th, 87th and 94th minutes of the game. Midfielder Miguel extended his goal tally to three after the day’s play while Sohel and Nuha opened their accounts at Kings.

Baridhara’s defender Kokha Mia struck a suicidal goal in the 93rd minute which helped the Kings to secure a big margin of victory.

In the day’s other match, the last year’s BPL runners-up Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd narrowly escaped Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra by 2-1 goals in an away match at the Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.

After the day’s feats, the Kings consolidated the top slot of the leaderboard with 32 points from ten wins, two draws and one defeat while Sheikh Jamal climbed up to the second slot with 27 points from seven wins and six draws.

Meanwhile, Baridhara and Muktijoddha remained at the 10th and 11th with their previous credits of 8 and 7 points respectively.

At Kings Arena, the visitors Baridhara started to press the home side from the beginning of the game. They created three chances within the first 20 minutes, though their efforts were wasted by the Kings' defenders and goalkeeper Anisur Rahman Zico.

However, the Kings came alive after the 20-minutes of the first half and bagged its fruits within the next six minutes when Miguel opened an account for the hosts with a left-footed, off a cross from defender Yeasin Arafat (1-0).

After four minutes, Sohel scored the second goal for the winning side with the right-footed shot, off a cutback by Kings interim captain Robson Robinho who returned to the squad after a one-match ban due to card issues.

The Kings Gambian forward Nuha made the goal line 3-0 before the half time with a brilliant header inside the box utilizing a long cross by midfielder Masuk Miah Zoni, off a corner from Matin Miah.

The second half was quite peaceful as both teams focused on ball possession rather than attacks and counterattacks. But the match totally went in the Kings’ favour when Baridhara official made the wrong decision of changing their regular goalkeeper Saiful Islam Khan.

But the home side made no mistake and punished the substitute goalkeeper Azad Hossain with three goals in a span of seven minutes.

Sabuz scored the fourth goal for Kings in his second attempt while his first cross towards Nuha was intercepted and deflected by Baridhara defender Khokon Miah inside the box.

After six minutes, defender Khokon repeated the same mistake when trying to intercept another cross from Sabuj. This time, he buried the ball into his own net unfortunately.

Forward Sumon netted the sixth and last goal of the day’s goal-fest match with a right-footer, off a cross from Robinho a few seconds before the final whistle.

In Munshiganj, Sheikh Jamal’s Nigerian forward Musa Tachi Najare and Gambian forward Solomon King Kanform scored one goal each in the 28th and 66th minutes while Muktijoddha’s Guinean defender Aboubacar Bakia Camara scored the lone goal for his side in the 70th minute.
