The Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam paid rich tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to mark his historic 7th March speech in 1971 that inspirited the people of Bangladesh to prepare for the liberation war.

High Commissioner Nahida Rahman Shumona began the programme by hoisting the national flag in the chancery premises, followed with a recitation of Al-Quran verses prior to the reading of messages of the President and the Prime Minister on the Historic 7th March Speech Day.

Before screening the historic speech of Bangabandhu for the invited guests, the High Commissioner said that Bangladesh’s Father of the Nation led the people of Bangladesh to independence in 1971 and delivered a speech at a large gathering at Ramna Race Course, Dhaka, on March 7, 1971.

UNESCO has recognised the speech as part of the World’s Documentary Heritage. The address has been included in the Memory of the World International Register – a list of the world’s important documentary heritage maintained by UNESCO.

The high commissioner-designate told the audience that with hard work and a visionary leadership, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has been transforming Bangladesh into a Golden Bengal – the long-cherished dream of Bangabandhu.

The High Commissioner also hosted a virtual session with former State Minister of Liberation War Affairs Ministry Captain AB Tajul Islam who fought heroically in the 1971 war. Diplomats, Bangladesh Community and Bruneians attended the session.
