Global Covid cases top 337 million

The overall number of Covid cases has now surpassed 337 million, with a spike in cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus across the world.

According to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 337,112, 379 while the death toll from the virus reached 5,563,776 Thursday morning.

The US has recorded 68,508,181 cases so far and 857,672 people have died from the virus in the country, the university data shows.

India's Covid-19 tally rose to 37,901,241 on Wednesday, including 282,970 new cases registered in 24 hours across the South Asian country, as per the federal health ministry's latest data.

Wednesday was the seventh consecutive day when more than 200,000 daily new cases were registered in India this year.

Besides, 441 deaths from the pandemic recorded since Tuesday morning took the total death toll to 487,202.

Brazil, which has been experiencing a new wave of cases since last January, registered 23,433,277 cases as of Wednesday, while its Covid death toll rose to 622,121.
