Bashundhara Group gives blankets to poor
A physically disabled man receives blankets from Bashundhara Group in Bogura on Monday. A total of 1,000 cold-hit people were provided with blankets in the district on the day.

Bashundhara Group, the country’s largest business conglomerate, provided underprivileged people with blankets in different areas in Bogura on Monday.

As part of his humanitarian gesture, Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan took the initiative to help the poor affected by the cold one and a half months ago.

Though the blanket distribution programme started from the northern region, it has now been expanded to other parts of the country.

The districts, where blankets were distributed among the poor so far, include Jashore, Narail, Meherpur, Chuadanga, Kushtia, Magura, Jhenaidah, Sirajganj, Rajshahi, Panchagarh and Nilphamari.

On Monday, blankets were distributed among 1,000 cold-hit people in Bogura Sadar and Shahjahanpur upazilas.

Deputy Commissioner Ziaul Haq attended the distribution programme, held on the premises of Zila School, as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Ziaul Haq said, “Bashundhara Group is the true friend of people. It shows humanitarian gesture in any natural calamity. The largest business conglomerate has also been providing relief for the poor affected by the Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. It is a shining example of humanity. Other corporate bodies should follow the path of Bashundhara Group.”

Educationist Bazlul Karim Bahar, Bangladesh Village Theater General Secretary Towfik Hasan Moina, Bogura Lekhok Chakra President Islam Rafik and physician Shafik Amin Kazol, among others, were present.

Azhar Ali, 65, a vulnerable man, breathed a sigh of relief after receiving a blanket. He said the blanket will keep him warm amid biting cold.

“I am extreme poor. So, buying a blanket is beyond my imagination. I am grateful to Bashundhara Group,” said Amena Bewa, an 80-year-old widow, after receiving a blanket.

Meanwhile, Bashundhara Group distributed blankets among the destitute at a programme held on the premises of Majhira High School in Shahjahanpur upazila.

Zila Parishad Panel Chairman Asadur Rahman Dulu, Officer-in-Charge of the local police station Abdullah Al Mamun, former councilor Khorshed Alam and high school headmistress Dilruba Khatun attended the programme.
