The ‘Jail Killing Day’ was observed with due solemnity by the Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam on Wednesday (Nov 3).

Marking the day reminiscent of the ruthless and unfortunate killing of the four national leaders of Bangladesh, a program was organised at the Bangabandhu corner inside the chancery premises.

Bangladesh High Commissioner Nahida Rahman Shumona presided over the program which started off with the recital from the Holy Quran followed by a one-minute silence.

Head of Chancery Jelal Hossain highlighted the background of the events in appropriate chronological order that led to the assassination of the four national leaders, namely Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmad, Mansur Ali, and AHM Qamaruzzaman.

The Bangladesh High Commissioner read out special messages received from the Hon’ble President and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and subsequently immersed herself completely in glorifying the lives, achievements, and significant roles played by these four national leaders who made an remarkable contribution by forming the Mujibnagar Government during the imprisonment of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1971.

She dolefully expressed that the barbaric killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with his family members in 15 August 1975 took the entire nation by shock and then the reprehensible and pathetic killing of the four national leaders on 03 November 2021 was another drag on the growth and development of a newly independent nation.

However, the Bangladesh High Commissioner proudly told that it is to the full credit of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that Bangladesh is regarded today as an emerging economy and globally recognised for its enviable success and achievements in all possible areas.

The programme was concluded with special prayer for the salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu, his family members, the four national leaders as well as for the well-being, good health, and long and prosperous life of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
