National Swimming: Three more records on second day

Navy swimmers Juthi Akter, Kajol Mia and Army swimmer Md Faysal Ahmed made three more national records in their respective events on the second day of Bangabandhu 30th National Swimming, Diving and Water polo Competition at the Syed Nazrul Islam National Swimming Complex in the capital on Saturday.

Juthi, Kajol and Mariam earlier made national records in their respective events -- women’s 50m backstroke, men’s 200m medley and women’s 100m breaststroke.

On the second day, Juthi made her second national record in the women’s 100m backstroke. The Navy swimmer took 01:13min. She beat Army swimmer Neyema Akter’s 1:13.62min record which was made in 2016.

Kajol made a record of 4:47.34min in the men’s 200m individual medley. He broke Army swimmer Jewel Ahmed’s record of 4:50min record which was made in 2019.

Faysal broke Jewel Ahmed’s 8-year old record of 17.28.28min in 1500m freestyle. The Army swimmer took 17:23.34min to complete his race.   

A total of 14 events were held on the second day. Country’s prominent swimmers -- Sonia Khatun earned three golds and a silver; Sonia Akter Tumpa won one gold, two silvers; Juthi clinched one gold in the women’s category and Kajol Mia secured one gold; Jewel Ahmed earned one silver and Asif Reza clinched one gold in the men’s category on the day.

Navy continued domination in the medal table with a total of 23 golds, 17 silvers, 8 bronze medals while Army second with 3 golds, 9 silvers, 14 bronze medals and BKSP third with one silver, 6 bronze medals.
