Mohammedan Sporting Club Captain Rasel Mahmud Jimmy has been handed a one-match ban and fined Tk 50,000 for humiliating umpire and opponents’ players during their last group match against Police Sporting Club of the ongoing Club Cup Hockey Tournament.
The unexpected incident started centering a wrong decision from umpire Imteaz Sunny. MSC captain Jimmy physically assaulted the umpire and two Police SC players during the match -- goalkeeper Kanchan Miah and defender Shawon Tigga.
However, Bangladesh Hockey Federation tournament committee took the decision in a meeting at its premises on Tuesday. Apart from Jimmy, the committee also fined Tk 5,000 to Police SC and exempted umpire Sunny for 10-match.
BHF general secretary Mohammad Yousuf informed that Jimmy can appeal to review his punishments before their next match.
“The decision was taken by the tournament committee. As per the verdict, Jimmy is going to miss their next match which is one of the two semifinals of the tournament,” Mohammad Yousuf told The Daily Sun.
Group A runners-up Mohammedan will play against Group B unbeaten champions Mariners Young's Club in the second semifinal match tomorrow at 6:00pm.
“I have no comment regarding it, please talk to my team manager or club officials,” Jimmy, who is also the national captain, replied while asked whether he would appeal or not before the next match.
