A veteran politician and President of Pirganj upazila Awami League (AL) Advocate Azizur Rahman Ranga died at his residence in Pirganj municipality in the early morning on Tuesday. He was 74.
He left behind two sons, four daughters, grandsons and granddaughters and a host of relatives, tens of hundreds of admirers, friends and well-wishers to mourn his death.
The news of his death instantly brought a shadow of profound sorrow among leaders and activists of AL, its associate bodies and other political parties, freedom fighters, professionals and common people across the district.
Ranga had a colourful political career. He had been involved in AL politics since his student life.
He was an elected Assistant General Secretary of Rangpur Carmichael College Students’ Union.
Advocate Ranga was President of Rangpur district unit of BCL for a long time.
He was the Convener of Rajshahi University unit of the ‘Sorbodoliyo Chhatra Oikko Parishad’.
He completed honours and master's courses in Bengali from Rajshahi University.
He was a member of the central committee of the Bangladesh Krishak League.
His first Namaj-E-Janaza will be held at Pirganj Government High School ground after the Asr prayers.
His second Namaj-E-Janaza will be held at his native village Ambari in Barodorga union of Pirganj upazila after the Esha prayers.
Later, his body will be buried at their family graveyard in village Ambari tonight.
In a condolence message, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury MP mourned the death of Pirganj upazila AL President Advocate Azizur Rahman Ranga and expressed her deep grief over his death.
The Speaker extended her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and well-wishers.
President of Rangpur district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its Vice-president Chhayadat Hossain Bakul and General Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Razu, Pirganj upazila Chairman Nur Mohammad Mondal, Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Biroda Rani Roy, General Secretary of Pirganj upazila AL and Pirganj municipal Mayor Tazimul Islam Shamim and leaders of other political parties expressed deep shock at the death of Advocate Ranga.
They conveyed deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
