The interim head coach of national U-23 Maruful Haque believes that they must get the best possible results in the upcoming AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers if they carry the development and execute his game plans properly on the field.

“We have a lot of time for preparations. I think we have a lot of space to work in this team. We know our opponents are strong, but if our players continue their developments, which have already been started, and execute my plans properly on the field, we must get the best possible results there,” Maruful told the media during a practice session on Saturday.

Bangladesh will play against hosts Kuwait on October 27, Uzbekistan on October 29 and Saudi Arabia on October 31 in the Group D of the qualifiers at Kuwait.

Bangladesh Football Federation announced a 38-member preliminary squad and appointed Chattogram Abahani Ltd coach Maruful as interim coach of the team last month. The camp started on September 26.

“I think I have a lot of work to do here. I’m not thinking that I was the head coach of the Bangladesh team. I’ve just focused on my work and the team because I believe I have many things to do with them. Now, I’m working on positions. We don’t have players in several positions such as number nine, eight and ten. But we can fulfill it with the available players, but they must continue to develop in their style as per my instructions,” the coach added.

Forward Nihat Jaman Ucchash said that they are confident enough to give the best result in the competitions.

“We are working very hard in the camp. As we know that our opponents are strong, they will play their best games and we will try to do the same. Currently, we are working on defence and counter-attacks,” Ucchash said.
