Ex-state minister Mannan, wife indicted in graft cases

A Dhaka court on Sunday framed charges against former State Minister Abdul Mannan Khan and his wife Syeda Hasina Sultana in two cases filed on charges of amassing illegal wealth.

Judge Mohammad Ali Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge Court-3 indicted the couple rejecting their discharge petitions in the cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in 2014.

Mannan Khan and his wife appeared before the court during the charge-framing. They pleaded not guilty and sought justice after the court read out the charges to them.

The court also set October 18 for the formal trial to begin with the deposition of witnesses in the cases.

On August 21, 2014, the ACC filed a case against former State Minister for Housing and Public Works Abdul Mannan with Ramna Police Station.

The ACC also filed another case against Mannan’s wife Syeda Hasina Sultana with the same police station on October 21, 2014.

According to the charge sheets submitted in May 2015, Mannan illegally amassed Tk 2.66 crore and concealed information about property worth Tk 31.45 lakh.

Mannan’s wife illegally amassed Tk 3.45 crore and concealed information about property worth Tk 1.86 crore.
