Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque said that the party conference will be held soon to organize the Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies.

"Many district, upazila, municipal, union and ward conferences of the Awami League could not be concluded due to the long-running Corona outbreak. Duration of many committees has been expired. Now we have to start working by maintaining the hygiene rules. The party needs to be reorganized by forming new committees through the council. At the same time, the allied organizations of the party including Chhatra League, Jubo League and Krishak League also need to be reorganized," he said.

The minister, also AL presidium member, was addressing a special extended meeting of Upazila Awami League at Madhupur Upazila Parishad auditorium in Tangail as chief guest.

The minister said that the committee should give place to the grassroots workers who have been tested, dedicated and who stood by AL during its difficult times.

Those who are dishonest and opportunistic will not be given any place in the committee, he added.

At this moment, the activities of forming union and ward conferences and committees of the upazila will be expedited, he said. He also urged all local leaders to work together so that all nominated AL candidates could win in the Union Parishad elections.

Strict organizational and punitive measures will be taken against those who will work as rebel candidates in an attempt to defeat their own 'Boat' (AL's party symbol) candidates, he said.

He further said, "BNP leaders should refrain from arson, terrorism and anarchic activities of burning innocent people in cars, houses and streets." He urged them to be ready for the next elections in 2023.

If the people of the country cast their votes for the BNP, AL will welcome them, he said, adding that the current AL-led government cannot be overthrown through terrorist-anarchic activities in the name of movement and struggle as BNP does not have that strength.

Madhupur Upazila Awami League President Khandaker Shafiuddin presided over the function while General Secretary and Upazila Chairman Charowar Alam Khan Abu and Municipal Mayor Siddique Hossain Khan also spoke, among others.
