Bangladeshi expatriates Nayb Tahmid Islam and Rahbar Wahed Khan received maiden call as Bangladesh Football Federation announced a 23-member squad on Tuesday for their upcoming Three Nations Cup, scheduled in Kyrgyzstan next month.

Tahmid plays as a midfielder for USSA Vertou Club, a fifth-tier club of France while Rahbar, who plays in the forward position, represents North Toronto Soccer Club, a semi-professional soccer club in Canada.

Mohammedan Sporting Club defender Mohammad Atikuzzaman, who was previously part of several national preliminary squads, also received his maiden call for the national team.

Uttar Baridhara Club goalkeeper Mitul Marma was another surprise selection in the team while veteran goalkeeper Ashraful Islam Rana was dropped from the national team.

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club defender Razaul Karim, who couldn’t take part in the last FIFA-AFC joint qualifier matches in Qatar due to passport complications, also returned to the national side.

Nigerian-born Bangladeshi forward Eleta Kingsley was overlooked in the team selection as he’s yet to get clearance from AFC to represent Bangladesh national team.

“He (Kingsley) hasn’t received the clearance from AFC yet to play in international football. Because of that, he didn’t play in the AFC Cup for Kings. Once he gets the clearance, he is available to play in the international team. At the moment, he is unavailable,” head coach Jamie Day told reporters on Tuesday.

Jamie believed that both Tahmid and Rahbar will add more quality to the team as both are technically good footballers.

“I have seen them play and now I want them to play at international level to see their worth. It gives us an opportunity to see these players before the SAFF Championship,” said Jamie.

“If they don’t perform, no problem. But I’m really looking to work with them. They are both technically good players. I hope they will add more quality in the squad,” he added.

The men in red and green will take on Palestine in their opening match on September 5 before they face hosts Kyrgyzstan in their last match on September 7.

Bangladesh are also scheduled to play a friendly match with Kyrgyzstan U-23s on September 9 during their tour.

The tour will mark the end of their preparations for the upcoming 13th edition of SAFF Championship, scheduled to be held on October 1-16 in Maldives.

According to the revised schedule, Bangladesh will begin the round-robin format tournament against Sri Lanka on October 1 at National Stadium in Male while they will face India in the second match on October 4.

The men in red and green will play their last two games against the hosts Maldives and Nepal on October 7 and 13 respectively. The final of the competition will take place on October 16.
