Bashundhara Group, the country’s largest business conglomerate, continued to distribute relief among the distressed people in various upazilas of Rajshahi on Sunday.
Shuvasangha, the social organisation of Bashundhara Group’s vernacular daily Kaler Kantho, reached out to poor and destitute in Paba, Mohanpur and Baghmara upazilas with relief materials.
Marizan Begum has been struggling for survival for the last 20 years due to the sickness of her husband. She cannot work. She is keeping body and soul together by begging.
After getting relief, she expressed her happiness and joy. “My husband has been sick for 20 years. I can’t work. Now, I’m happy to get the relief. Allah helps him who helps people,” she said.
Speaking on the occasion, Nowhata municipality Mayor Hafizur Rahman hailed Bashundhara Group for its food assistance to the poor and destitute. “Bashundhara Group is distributing relief among lakhs of people. I tender my thanks and gratitude to the owner and others concerned of the country’s largest business conglomerate,” he said.
Among others, Nowhata Women's Degree College Principal Kawsar Ali, Vice-principal Saiful Islam, upazila press club President Kazi Nazmul Islam, General Secretary Sarkar Dulal Mahbub and Shuvasangha Director Jakaria Zaman were present.
Meanwhile, 300 distressed families received relief on the Mohanpur Govt College premises in Mohanpur upazila.
In Baghmara, Bashundhara Group distributed relief among 300 poor families at Mohanganj High School field.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Humayun Kabir, Mohanganj Degree College lecturer Md Harun-Or-Rashid and Shuvasangha Director Jakaria Zaman attended the programme.
Bashundhara Group also distributed relief among impoverished people in Rajshahi on Saturday.
