Family of BNP chief Khaleda Zia claims to have got verbal nod to send her abroad

Family of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia claimed to have got verbal permission from the government to send her abroad for better treatment.

Any formal permission is likely to be available at night, said party sources quoting family members.

Last night, Shamim Iskandar, younger brother of Khaleda Zia, handed an application to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal seeking permission to ensure her overseas treatment.

The home ministry sent the application to the law ministry for necessary action.

Home minister also told journalists that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very much compassionate and she is sure to consider the matter on humanitarian ground.

Meanwhile, Law Minister Anisul Huq at a press briefing at his residence said the application will be dealt with legally.

The application will go through due legal procedure, he said.

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is already convicted in two graft cases while many other criminal and corruption cases are pending with the court.

She is out of the jail following the government’s executive order which is extended.

Replying to a query, Anti-Corruption Commission counsel Md Khurshid Alam Khan told journalists that Khaleda Zia will need the court’s permission for going abroad.
