The secretaries of different ministries have recommended extending the ongoing "countrywide lockdown" for another week as Covid-19 infection is still on the rise..
The decision was taken in a meeting of the secretaries, led by Cabinet secretary, on Monday.
Now a proposal in this regard will be sent for Prime Minister's approval. A gazette notification will be issued after getting permission.
Earlier, the national technical advisory committee on the coronavirus recommended extending the ongoing lockdown for another week to control the spread of the deadly virus in the country.
The committee made the recommendation at its virtual meeting, headed by its Chairman Prof Md Sahidullah, on Sunday night.
The panel suggested reviewing the rate of infections prior to ending the lockdown.
A plan should be designed to lift the lockdown gradually, the committee said.Previously, NTAC recommended a full lockdown for at least two weeks. The government has already announced a one-week lockdown from April 14 and the committee expressed satisfaction over that.
