The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has said restriction has imposed on all kinds of fishing, including Hilsa, at five Hilsa sanctuaries of six districts from March 1 to April 30 in a bid to protect Hilsa fry.

Public relations officer of the ministry concerned Md Iftekhar Hossain came up with this information on Sunday.

The fishing, including Hilsa, will remain banned at the Hilsa sanctuaries of Barishal, Chandpur, Laxmipur, Bhola, Shariatpur and Patuakhali.

All kinds of fishing are banned in the months of March and April every year in the Hilsa sanctuaries of the country. This time, fishing in those places is a punishable offence. Violators will face punishment with at least one to maximum two years rigorous imprisonment or a fine of up to Tk 5,000 or both.
