National Security Intelligence and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a joint operation arrested a ringleader of a fraud gang from Gopibagh area under Motijheel Thana in the capital on Tuesday night.
The arrestee was identified as Md Ibn Mizan Rony, 50, hailed from Chandpur district and was charged of deceiving people, luring them with jobs.
“As the matter is suspicious, it is known through technology and intelligence that the application was sent to the Bangladesh Ansar & VDP headquarter by the fraudster Md Ibn Mizan Rony for the purpose of cheating,” he said.
Later, a joint team of NSI and RAB-3 conducted an operation in Gopibagh area under Motijheel police station on Tuesday at about 9:00pm and arrested the ringleader of the fraud gang.
The team also seized 3 mobile phones, 3 SIM cards and 8 pages screenshots of the fraudulent SMS from the fraudster.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrested fraudster said that he had been using the identity of various government officials, bureaucrats and influential political leaders at various times to embezzle money from people in the name of giving jobs, promotions and transfers.
The RAB official said the arrested accused is a professional fraudster. There are 7 cases pending against him for fraud and other crimes.
