National Athletics: Rinki sets new record in women’s 3000m

Bangladesh Navy’s Rinki Biswash booked a new national record of 10:43:30 min in the women’s 3000m of the ongoing 44th National Athletics Competition 2021 at Bangabandhu National Stadium on the second day on Saturday.

Rinki broke the 11:08:15 min record of Halima Khanom Bithi after 17 years which was booked in 2003.

A total of 17 events were held on the second day.  The day’s 17 gold medalists are: women’s shot put - Sraboni Mollik (Ansar & VDP); men’s high jump – Md Mahfuzur Rahman (Navy); men’s 5000m- Sohel Rana (Army); men’s 4x100 relay- Md Ismail, Rakibul Hassan, Abdur Rauf and Jahir Rayhan (Navy); women’s 4x100 relay- Shirin Akter, Sabiha Al Soha, Umme Hafsa Rumki and Tamanna Akter (Navy); women’s long jump- Sonia Akter (Army); women’s 100m hurdles - Tamanna Aktar (Navy); men’s javelin throwing- Md Monirujjaman (Army); men’s hammer throw - Mahfuz Hasan (Navy);  men’s 110m hurdles - Mirza Hasan (Army); men’s 400m - Zahir Raihan (Nary); women’s 400m – Sabiha Al Soha (Navy); men’s long jump- M Al Amin (Navy); women’s javelin throwing-  Papiya Akter (Army); men’s 3000m steeple chase- Sohel Rana (Army); women’s 3000m-  Rinki Biswash (Navy).

This year, a total 438 athletes and 65 managers from 34 divisional and district sports associations, five services’ teams, four universities and one education board are taking part in the 36 events of the three-day competition.
