Faruk Quazi, a veteran journalist and former Minister (Press) at Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, passed away at his residence on Friday. He was 71.
He breathed his last in his sleep around 8 am at his Elephant Road residence, said his daughter Arshi Quazi.Faruk, also Prime Minister’s former deputy press secretary, former chief of correspondents of the United News of Bangladesh and former president of Law Reporters' Forum (LRF), left behind wife, daughter and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
Faruk Quazi, also served as a senior journalist in many organisations, including the Banglar Bani, the Bangladesh Shangbad Shangstha (BSS) and the Observer.
He was born in Thanapara village in Kushtia on November 19, 1949. Renowned actor Quazi Rashidul Huq Pasha, also a journalist, is the elder brother of him.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at his death. In a message of condolence, the premier prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Law Minister Anisul Huq, Jatiya Press Club President Saiful Alam, General Secretary Farida Yasmin and daily sun Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury expressed deep shock at the death of the journalist.
Besides, Dhaka Reporters Unity and Dhaka Journalists Union expressed shock at his death.
