Corona Treatment: About 10,000 beds still vacant in hospitals

A total of 9,919 general beds and 183 ICU (Intensive Care Unit) remain vacant in covid-19 hospitals across the country including.

“A total of 4,691 patients are currently admitted in general beds of covid-19 hospitals and 183 others admitted in ICU beds across the country,” said Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Admin) of the DGHS.

She came up with the information while addressing a regular health bulletin at the DGHS headquarters at Mohakhali in the capital.

According to the DGHS, there are a total of 14,610 general beds and a total of 379 ICU beds in designated covid-19 hospitals in all divisions of the country.

Dr Nasima said a total of 2,375 patients are admitted at general beds and 97 at ICU beds in 16 designated covid-19 hospitals of the Dhaka city.

There are 6,773 general beds and 183 ICU beds in the Covid hospitals of the Dhaka city, she added.

The DGHS official said the coronavirus infected patients can be admitted in all the designated covid-19 hospitals across the country where the beds are laying vacant.

About the latest update of country’s coronavirus situation, she said forty more coronavirus infected patients died and 3,868 new cases were detected in the last 24 hours till Friday morning.

The DGHS said a total of 1,30,474 coronavirus patients have been detected so far in the country. Of them, 53,133 recovered and 1,661 died.

“So far, 6,96,941 samples have been tested and 18.72 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus,” Dr Nasima said.

She said the death rate from the coronavirus infection is at 1.27 percent while the current recovery rate is 40.72 percent.

Prof Nasima said 1,638 more patients have made recovery from the disease in the last 24 hours while a total of 53,133 people undergoing treatment in home and hospitals were recovered.

Among the 40 deceased, 32 were male and seven female while 10 were from Dhaka, 10 from Chattogram, five from Rajshahi, five from Khulna, three from Mymensingh, two from Barishal and four were from Rangpur division.

Of them, two were between 21-30 years old, one within 31-40, seven within 41-50, nine between 51-60, 12 between 61-70, seven within 71-80 and another was from 91-100 years old, she also said.

The DGHS official said 59,790 coronavirus patients are staying in home quarantine, 4,208 in hospital and other institutional quarantine and 13,429 in isolation.
