A reporter of Bangladesh Pratidin has seriously been injured as police have beaten him mercilessly in the capital on Thursday.

The victim is Tuhin Howlader, court correspondent of the newspaper.

He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.

The incident took place on KM Das Road at Tikatuli in the capital.

Sub-Inspector of Wari Police Station Mahbubur Rahman and one member of Ansar Battalion asked him to stop his motorcycle, Tuhin said.

“When I stopped, they asked me why I left home. After saying this, they began to beat me. They did not hear my words,” he said.

Hannanul Islam, assistant commissioner of Wari Crime Zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said that they knew about the matter.

If Tuhin lodges a complaint, we shall take action against Mahbub, he said.

Shah Iftekhar Ahmed, deputy commissioner of Wari Crime Division of the DMP, said that he knew the matter. Police will take departmental action if the incident is found true, he added.
