The trained physicians and technologists tested more 27 samples of suspected coronavirus patients at the COVID-19 Laboratory of the Department of Microbiology at Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) in Khulna on Wednesday.
“With this, we have tested a total of 34 collected samples of suspected COVID-19 patients here till yesterday,” said Head of the Department of Microbiology of KMCH and Focal Point COVID-19 Molecular Laboratory Dr. Mostakim Shahnaz Parvin.She said after collecting samples of suspected COVID-19 patients from all the ten districts of Khulna division, 27 samples were tested on Wednesday and 7 samples tested on Monday at the laboratory.
“After testing the samples at the laboratory, results were sent to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) for recheck,” Dr. Shahnaz said. The samples like throat swabs, blood, sweat and cough of suspected COVID-19 patients are being collected from the district and union levels of Khulna division.
“The trained technologists are collecting samples under supervision of the Civil Surgeons and Surveillance Immunization Medical Officers of the World Health Organisation (WHO) from the grassroots levels,” She added.
“We have a capacity of testing up to 94 samples of suspected (COVID-19) patients concurrently using kits, 94 well plates and other inputs received from the IEDCR once a day at the COVID-19 laboratory at KMCH,” Vice-Principal of KMC Dr. Mehedi Newaz said.
