Another victim of Narayanganj gas fire dies at DMCH

Another people, who suffered burns after a fire broke out at a house in Sahebapara of Siddhirganj upazila in Narayanganj Monday, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Md Kiron Mia, 45, son late Abu Taher of Itkhola village of in Narsingdi's Shibpur upazila.

Inspector Bacchu Miah of DMCH police outpost confirmed this to the daily sun this morning.

With this fresh death, the death toll from the Narayanganj gas explosion rose to 2 so far. Nurjahan Begum, an elderly woman and victim of the fire, also died at the hospital at 11:05 am on Monday.

“Kiron Mia, who suffered 70 per cent burns on his body, succumbed to the injury at ICU of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn And Plastic
Surgery (SHBP) at 12:40 am. The body of the victim was kept in the DMCH morgue for an autopsy,” Bacchu Miah said.

Earlier on Monday morning, eight members of a family suffered burn injuries after the fire broke out at their house in Siddhirganj upazila in Narayanganj.

Mohammad Shahjahan, senior station officer of Adamjee Fire Service, said gas accumulated in their flat as the burner had remained open all night. The fire started when one of their relatives Elias lighted a cigarette, said the inspector. Later, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.

Firefighters rescued the injured family members, currently being treated at the Burn and Plastic Surgery Department of DMCH.

The other injured are –Hiron Miah, 25, Hiron’s wife Mukta, 20, Md Abul Hossain, 25, Md Kawser, Lima, 3, and Apon, 10. They hail from Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi and live on the ground floor of a five-storey building.
