Kangalini Sufia gets TK 2 lakh from DNCC mayor

DNCC mayor Atiqul Islam on Sunday handed over a cheque of Tk 2 lakh to famous folk singer Kangalini Sufia for her treatment as per his announcement, made at the anniversary celebration programme of the daily sun in October last.

Earlier on October 24, the mayor promised the financial support to Kangalini Sufia while attending the 9th anniversary celebration programme of the daily sun, a national English newspaper and an outlet of the East West Media Group Limited.

The DNCC mayor greeted the daily sun on its 9th anniversary. Kangalini Sufia was also present in the programme when the announcement was made by the mayor last month.

Kangalini Sufia broke down in tears while receiving the cheque from Atiqul Islam at DNCC Nagar Bhaban in the capital today (Sunday).

Atiqul Islam said, "If we want to preserve the folk culture of our country, we will have to extend financial and other helps to folk singers and other concerned persons.”

DNCC will continue to extend its support to the talented artist like Kangalini Sufia, he added.

Kangalini Sufia said, "I pray for the mayor of DNCC for extending his helping hand during the hardship of my life. I am very grateful to him for financial support. "

Family members of Kangalini Sufia, including her daughter Pushpo Begum, were present at the cheque handover ceremony.

The singer has been suffering from multiple complications including throat ache, kidney diseases and irregularities of blood circulation in the brain and heart problems.
