ACC sues RMCH principal among six for embezzling Tk 4.5 crore

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday filed a case against six persons including Dr Nurul Islam, the Principal of the Rangpur Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) for embezzling around Tk 4.5 crore from the college.

Confirming this, ACC public relation officer (PRO) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee said, “ACC Deputy Assistant Director Md Ferdous Rahman has filed the case against the six persons.”

The PRO said, “RMCH principal Nurul Islam and Jaher Uddin, owner of contractor firm Bengal Scientific, and four other persons were sued as they embezzled government money amounting TK 4 crore 48 lakh through purchasing unnecessary medical equipment.”

The accused allegedly bought heavy machineries and medical equipment for the RMCH without seeking proper permission of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), he added.
