Suspected drug peddler lynched in Noakhali

A youth was beaten to death by a mob in Companiganj upazila of Noakhali on Saturday noon.

The deceased was identified as Golam Kibria Mintu, 33, son of Ismail, hailing from Charkakra village of the upazila.

The accident took place around 5:00 pm in the premises of Shaheed Siddique Ullha Government Primary School in ward no 2 of Charakkara union of the upazila.

According to the Companyganj Police Station sources, that Mintu was released on bail from jail five days before. There are six cases including drug case against him with the Police Station.

Md Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Companiganj Police Station confirmed the matter.

Golam Ajam, deceased’s brother alleged that some people called Mintu in the school and gave him a good beating, leaving him critically injured. Late, they handed over him to police with severe injury.

Police admitted the youth to Companiganj Upazila Health Complex. However, doctors of the health complex referred him to Maijdi Sadar Hospital but he died on the way at 8:00 pm, Golam Ajam said.

A case was filed with the Police Station in this connection, he added.
