Jaitya Party Chairman HM Ershad will be buried at Pallinibash in Rangpur after Asr prayer, says party leader Moshiur Rahman Ranga on Tuesday.
Ershad's wife Raushan Ershad gave her consent in this regard, says media report.The 4th namaz-e-janaza of Ershad was held at Rangpur Collectorate field at 2:30pm today. Huge law enforcers were deployed in and around the ground to fend off any untoward incident as local leaders of the party declared that they will not give back the body of Ershad for burial in Dhaka.
The ground of Rangpur Collectorate was turned into a human sea centring the janaza of Ershad, the son of Rangpur.
Earlier, the body of Leader of the Opposition in Parliament HM Ershad was taken to Rangpur by a military helicopter from Dhaka.
Jatiya Party acting Chairman GM Guader, Secretary General Moshiur Rahman Ranga, former Secretary General Ruhul Amin Hawlader and Ershad’s son Rahgir Al Mahi Shad Ershad, among others, accompanied the body.
After the janaza of Ershad in Rangpur, his body was supposed to bring back to Dhaka today for burial at the Military Graveyard.
Ershad, also a former president of the country, died on July 14 at the Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) , at the age of 89 years.Meanwhile, controversy arose over Ershad’s burial when a decision came that he will be buried in military graveyard in Dhaka.
The Jatiya Party wings of Rangpur and Rajshahi declared that the burial of HM Ershad must be held in Rangpur at any cost, the hometown of the veteran politician of the country.
The leaders also announced that they won’t allow the authorities to take back his body to Dhaka. And in this connection they held a meeting on Monday afternoon protesting the decsion of burial of Ershad in Dhaka.
A grave was also dug for the Jatiya Party Chairman at the Litchi Orchard of his local residence Pallinibash on Monday.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude to the people of Rangpur for their emotion, love and respect for HM Ershad, his wife Raushan Ershad today gave consent for the former president’s burial in Rangpur, according to a party press statement signed by Khandakar Delwar Jalali, deputy press secretary of Jatiya Party chairman.
Raushan also requested for keeping a land for her burial beside the grave of Ershad, Jalali said.
